I'm lucky so far - no swiss cheese... it's all surface rust as far as I can tell. POR15 should fix it, but I'm not sure how far into this I want to go. Searching, I see that the screws are indeed welded to the car (kind of looked like that)... terrible way to do it imho, but anyway, I've broken one and will need to find a solution... don't want to break any more! It also sounds tricky to get the arch trim back in place if I remove it. Do I need to remove it to remove the fender liner? looks like I do...
I oil spray this car annually now (and have paid close attention to this area), but it is possible that this started prior our ownership (we've only had it 2 years)...
