First, you have to check the linkage by following the resetting of the linkage procedure that is on the board. Put something in the locking hole like an ellen and then make loose (very long 3/8 extension with a 13mm if I remember correctly) the adjusting bolt near the firewall and re-adjust and then tighten the bolt, rinse and repeat until all works. There is a detailed posting somewhere on the board.
If this does not work then there is a known issue, especially with Aero Manuals, that something goes in the trans (like a clip) to get into reverse the car has to be moving backward (even just very very slightly) to get the car in reverse. I have a 2001 Aero Sedan Manual that has been doing this for quite a while. I have another trans to put in when have to do the clutch. There is something strange going on that the sync does not work in reverse. 50% of the time you can go right into reverse, the rest of the time the car has to be moving back even just a tad and then go from another gear into reverse. This works 100% of the time after a try or two.
Hopefully it is one of these and not something even worse.
