CEL, possible throttle body...

The 2004 has had a fluctuating turbo gauge needle at constant speed, signs point to a failing throttle body from my research. First noticed it a few days after I bought the car a couple weeks ago. I was hoping to get by until I got the 2000 fixed (I've got a shiny new CPS sitting in a box on my desk).
This morning my speedometer stopped working (along with the tripmeter and odometer), no warning lights and the tachometer continues to work. This afternoon I got a CEL for a P1230 and I discovered the throttle body was in limp mode, but you wouldn't know it to drive it- it was perfectly normal so I'm not sure exactly when it tripped. When the 2000 did this the revs went crazy and it was a bear to drive. Throttle body keeps tripping.
Does the speedometer stop working when throttle is in limp mode, or is the non-functioning speedometer triggering the throttle body? I'm not getting the Christmas tree effect, so at this point I am assuming the ABS controller appears to be safe.
Thanks
