NEW HAVEN WAS SAAB Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Sat, 26 Oct 2013 09:17:58 In Reply to: Two Dealerships listed, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 26 Oct 2013 05:28:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I remember going down to Saab HQ warehouse in New Haven to pick up an engine for my 93b in the 1960's because I needed it in a hurry.
I also remember doing the same for some body parts for my 1966 96 when I was on leave for the AF and had to get the bodywork done in a few days so I could go to my new post. New Haven was where the cars were imported and where the parts warehouse was. Some cars also went to a port in Rhode Island and other ports.
Saab moved down the road a bit to Orange CT in the 70s. Before moving to Atlanta after Bob Sinclair left. Rumor was that they wanted to shed some of the expensive older talent and moving was the best way to slim things down. This also started the process of GM presidents for Saab who were not car guys at all.
So I am sure there are a lot of Saabs still in the New Haven area. Very strong tradition of Saab there.
NOW THAT IS MORE THAN YOU WANT TO KNOW.......and from a guy who feels old by remembering the 60s, 70s etc...!!!
