Ok, so forget everything I wrote since you have a 4 cyl. On a US spec 4 cyl 9-5, they don't have SAI system.

It's no use guessing what it could be since you have about 200 different reasons for the same Check Engine light to come on and many and most of them will not make the car act up but it will run quite normally.

So try to get the fault codes read one or another way and then we can help you better. It could be as easy as a broken vacuum hose and make sure the gas cap is on tight since that will also trigger that light.
