It depends on the year, but on your year westernny had the correct answer. I've copied it below.
1.) With the car turned on, when the message appears, BRIEFLY press the Clear button, which will temporarily remove the message. When the message disappears, LET GO OF THE BUTTON.
2.) Then, immediately press and hold the same Clear button until the "Cleared" message appears, and WITHOUT LETTING GO OF THE BUTTON, wait a few more seconds until the chime sounds and the "Service" message appears.
3.)THEN you can let go of the Clear button. The message won't come back until the next mysterious pre-programmed interval has passed.
