Hi all... 99 2.3LPT wagon 47k miles

My dealer here in San Diego retourqued my head yesterday, to fix an oil leak (3rd time in the shop for the leak).

When my wife picked it up , she immediately noticed a strange noise -- told the service personnel who said they heard nothing.

I've been driving it today, and there is definitely a new noise (not the quietest engine in existence to begin with, but this one stands out).

It is going to be really hard for me to describe it, and I am going to bring it back down to the dealer on Monday, but thought I'd ask around for any ideas.

It occurs upon acceleration, rather high pitched. It's not linear (not related to any particular RPM, and doesn't change pitch as RPMs increase). Mainly related to the throttle being opened. My two immediate suspects are a vacuum leak (I imagine that a lot of hoses were removed prior to the head retourquing), or something turbo-related (it's high enough pitched to sound like the normal turbo sound, only louder).

Obviously , they shouldn't have touched anything related to the turbo when they worked on the head (except maybe oil supply lines???), so I suspect that is not it.

I THINK that power is a bit reduced, and my wife, who normally doesn't notice things like that, thinks so as well. I suppose either one of those two things could cause a power loss.

Any one have any ideas? I could use the help before I go back to the dealer on Monday (if they'll see me!).
