The lawyers managed to wiggle their way out of a full coverage of all years and engines so it was a hit and miss with the V6 engine in those first years.
Both the V6 and 4 cyl got the software update from late 03 models (from VIN 33041133 ).
Also, the 99 year model did not have a fuel computer that was capable of handling the IDM software update so neither the 4 cyl or V6 have that feature. Those early ECU only got the throttle body software update.
The TK4.4 version of the V6 IDM did have problems failing just like that whenever it felt like it but the very next generation TK4.6 have been almost trouble free since day one and even though they have an A, B, C and D version of the TK4.6, I have only seen two failures where one of the three ignition coils had failed.
I bet the V6 IDM last longer because it sits up away from the hot cylinder head with some air circulating around it compared to the 4 cyl engine
