Several years ago I spent $2500 on a 2000 9-5 SE Wagon v6 @100k miles ,needed work like exhaust & cooling ,etc. My daily driver was a 1989 c900 3dr plain jane . I have chunked plenty other upgrades and replacements to the tune of probably ,let's say 5-7 thousand ... 75,000 miles later and still cruising the report would be ...Get a 9-5 !
Look for 2004 or newer . Wagons are nice ,but harder to find . Parts are an issue for any brand or anything these days . Save some of your budget and you might get a nice car that will go many miles .
My perspective difference between the Classic 900 and the 9-5 is quite dramatic . I still have both cars now , but the classic seems more like an agricultural device . The 9-5 is : Road Car Supreme . The heat is much better in the '89 , but the A/C in the 9-5 rules! Both have Traction !
The v6 had no sludge problems and runs smooth , if you can deal with the timing belt and thermostat/oil cooler cover issues. I break my own wrenches ,and knuckles .
Keep the old one , and try a newer one !!
