My 9-5 Aero has been gone for a while but I recently bought a 2000 Viggen, which is the 9-5 Aero motor. After months of driving it I am now notocing noise at the top of valve cover on the timing chain side of the engine when it is idling. I don't hear any noise when driving. I popped of the serpentine belt but there was no change in the noise. The tensioner measured 15mm and the car has 183k miles. Just wondering if actual measurements are made on the chain that is removed compared to the new one to see if it is actually stretched because maybe the issue is the guides are worn but the chain can go for a lot longer. I gues if the roll in methoid is done then you can't determine this since the old chain gets cut. I also am guessing that even though the old chain is not measured for actual stretch that when the new one goes in and the noise is gone then the chain must have been stretched. I am basically tying to decide if I should go ahead and rolling a new chain or not. Maybe just try adding a new top chain guide since it is cheap and easy since the noise seems to be coming from the top chain guide area.
