If you got shocks from a recycler, typically they pull off the entire assembly including the spring as a unit - it's 5 bolts. Removing the spring from the shock requires more work, so my experience is that it's usually sold as an assembly. Then, if that's the case, and the assembly came off a Linear or an Arc your ride height will increase significantly due to the different springs.
I did my shocks and springs when I got our '04 Aero SportTech Kombi back in '11. I bought new Aero specific springs from a local and well respected SAAB indie, and a new set of Bilstein HDs. My rear ride height increased by about 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch if memory serves correctly. So far I've done all wrenching on the car myself.
