Squealing rear brakes are gone! Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 4 Apr 2014 15:28:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For the two years I have owned my '08 Aero, I (and my neighbors) have suffered from a horrific squealing of the rear brakes on the first use of reverse following a car wash, following a rain, or following a heavy dew. Often times this screeching was at 4:30am when I left for work, and now a more reasonable 6:30am departure.
I had been looking for Mintex pads here in the US but apparently following the purchase of Mintex by a global brake conglomerate this brand of pads are no longer sold in North America. So I bought OEM Saab rear pads made by Textar.
I installed them last Sunday and the weather has bestowed three rainy wet morning on us since. No more squealing!
The pads I removed had both Ate and Akebono stamped into them, as well as SAAB painted on the backing plate. Based on the size and locations of the stamped names I am guessing Ate made the pads using Akebono friction material. The pads appeared to have over 50% life remaining.
