I'm coming up on 140,000 on our '04 9-5 Aero and I've been fretting over fuel pump replacement. Being an Engineer and a bit of a GEEK I tallied up the data from the survey post and ran a Weibull analysis. I got a PVE% of 52.5% which is pretty good for field data. The eta value is 187,132 miles. For you non-statistical types, eta is the value at which 62.5% of the population can be expected to fail. So I figure I'll run our pump to around 150,000 miles and then change it. The Beta value (slope) from the Weibull is 4.33 which indicates old age wearout, which is what I'd expect from a DC powered fuel pump with consumable brushes.
The software I use has an optimum replacement interval tool. If I assume $300 for a planned replacement and $500 for an unplanned replacement, the optimum replacement interval is 156,000 miles.
As the legalese says: "Individual results may vary. Values presented for information only."
I can do this for the DIC too, but that will likely vary by year as the '04 and up cars likely have longer lived ignitions due to the software modification.
