You are partly correct, but it is a 38 volt battery, in a 42 volt charging system, and unfortunately,where many manufacturers thought that even some 2004 cars would be deigned this way, they are stil more like 5 years off. Initial vehicles will probably have to be dual voltage models, incorporating a 12 volt battery and charging system for all of the high volume but low current drain items like radios interior lights, instrument panel readouts etc. The higher voltage system will drive things like E_H shifting transmissions, electric power steering, electronic engine solenoid valves,and electronic active suspension. This, combined with direct port fuel injection, will allow a motor with no separate starter.
Lots of neat technology, but unfortunately, not tomorrow either.
