Inside the valve covers 1999 vs 2004

Removed the valve cover on my 2004 to replace/retorque head bolts and night and day difference in the two - 2004 really very clean no varnish or deposits whereas 1999 most surfaces were coated. 2004 has seen synthetic oil exclusively while 1999 used dino till around 35k when I switched to Saab semi syn and eventually full synthetic as the sludge issues became more fully revealed. But I would think a lot of the issue was lack of a good PCV system till later years.
So I am hoping to see the same results with the 2004 as I did with the 1999 with respect to head bolt replace/retorque stopping the oil seepage from the head - when I parted ways with the 1999 at 170k miles it leaked virtually no oil at all - certainly no drips like the 2004 has been doing.
The head bolts probably didn't need replacement and although I ordered a new valve cover gasket the old one didn't rip so I was too lazy to replace it .
I like the 2004 ARC because it has a good deal more power than the 1999 which was kind of a dog. But both cars have seen minimal repairs beyond the warranty period.
