2004 Aero wagon, 108,000 miles. I have the same symptoms on my wagon. I sent the module off to BBS reman several years ago but still have problems almost always in hot weather. Seems like after I wash the wagon the problem doesn't come back for a week or so then frequently. I had a wheel sensor replaced the first time this occurred when the Tech 2 showed a communication problem between the module and the rear wheel. But problem returned. I shredded the right rear tire in the past - always wondered if the ABS wiring was damaged at that time.
I believe there is a problem in the connector or wiring between the rear wheel(s) and the module. Some have suggested the wiring may be damaged from lowering the rear seats to carry a long load? Others say there is a splice in the wiring bundle that is prone to corrosion and hotter weather increases resistance in the wire causing communication issues. I intend to jack the rear and inspect the connections and wiring some day. Then fall arrives and the problem goes away for the winter.
You need Tech 2 to diagnose, OBD code reader won't help.
