Problem w/ Gates Belt Tensioner

Time to replace the tensioner and belt on a 2002 2.3L 9-5. All went well until I went to pry on the tensioner to remove the pin with the usual 1/2" socket extension and discovered the Gates branded casting places the pry hole slightly more clockwise then the OEM part. As a result the extension hits the engine head before enough force is applied to release the pin. PIA. Eventually found that a piece of flat feeler gauge filled the gap to get enough leverage to remove the pin.
Not saying the part is defective as the "official" tensioner pry bar is probably not a 1/2" socket extension but I know many people use that as it always works on the OEM casting even though it fits a little loose in the pry opening.
