Slow Crank when hot Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Sat, 2 Aug 2014 20:03:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have an '04 and currently we're on a road trip. The car has always seemed to crank slowly. Today it cranked especially slowly and once acted like it was about to fail to turn over. After sitting overnight or when cool it still cranks slowly like it always has. I bought a volt meter today and will check battery voltage both pre-start and when running.
The battery is a two year old Duralast. The battery connections are clean and were brushed when the battery was replaced and then sprayed with corrosion block. The battery connection cables appear to have intact insulation with no obvious corrosion. The battery cover is clean and in good condition. There are no odd symptoms that would point to the alternator or battery as the car runs well without histrionics from the lights, wipers, or stereo.
I checked the connector on the alternator and that appears OK. Do I need to remove plastic under-body covers to check, and / or replace battery wires? They seem sort of expensive at $100 or so each.
Thanks,
Doug
