These motors are very tough to wrench in some places . Be careful around the thermostat outlet tube and the little elbow hose that leads down to the turbo . The dipstick tube can be in the way , I just bend it a little . I have replaced many of the "difficult access " torx cap screws with allen cap screws/bolts . Really helps with the front exhaust/turbo manifold bolts when you go there .Take a good look at the camshafts/etc when the cover is off . I always try to remove some of the horrible black oil in the nooks and crannys , but it probably doesn't matter , since this engine retains about a pint of dirty oil in the oil cooler when you change the oil .
Don't over tighten the valve cover at first , the gasket can be tricky . I usually tuck some Bounty or Viva to catch any seepage above the turbo , just be sure to remove them after a test run .
I think the motor originated in Great Briton from Opel/Vauxhall . I like mine , runs like a smooth machine . Pulls great in the mountains with a trailer !
Good luck ,seems like you are doing fine , it is not easy .
