I bought a 9-5 Aero wagon about a month ago (May 14):
Dealer demo (Manager's car) with 12000km (7500 miles)
5 spd manual
Sliding load floor
Tinted windows
Retractable cargo net (new)
Roof rack crossbars (new)
List price: $60200 (approx $39700 USD)
My price: $50500 + tax (approx $33000 USD)
I should mention that I got the retractable cargo net for free because I get a discount due to the fact I had a family member who worked for GM. The deal I got on the car was better than the employee purcase plan, but I filled out the forms for the dealer so he could get some cash back anyways- and he returned the favour with the cargo net.
I've been told the '03s should be on sale now (If you want to pay without seeing the car) and they will arrive in dealerships around mid October. I've heard that one of the main differences is a sattelite navigation system which pops out of the dash (a $2-4 grand CAD option on the competition's product, so expect about the same on Saab)Otherwise I haven't heard any other differences for '03. I think the body style will remain the same.
Another note: If you want the retractable cargo net for the back seat,(which will work with the seat folded down as well- attaching just behind the front seats) try to work it into the deal- it's much more expensive than you would expect it to be.
I expect that you could get a similar deal on a brand new (rather than slightly used as mine was) 9-5 once the '03s hit the showrooms. You may have difficulty finding exactly what you want though- you're limited to the ones that nobody else wanted- I got lucky, but I still had to buy the demo car rather than a brand new one to get what I wanted (it seems that the manual transmissions are a bit harder to come by at this time of year)
One last thing- interest rates are probably lower than you'll see for the rest of your life right now- I got mine for 0.9% over 5 years (purcahse, lease was 1.9%) I assume that this rate will go up on the 2003 models.
Good luck with your hunt!
