Since it is almost unheard of in the 4 cyl Saab engine, why do you feel that would be a possibility?
An interference engine will in most cases crank over just happily even when a timing chain or belt has broken and in most cases, crank over much quicker since it will be little compression in the engine.
If the chain or belt broke at full freeway speed, it could have broken the valves and pistons in so many pieces that some of them have locked up the engine but that is rare.
