I've owned several Saabs since 1976, latest being 9-5. I had "thump" problems and pressed my dealer for fix in April 2000. They advised SAAB were aware of problem and had a fix for dealers. They installed a "block" of fuel cell foam (racing technology) which cured problem. They claim with the open cell foam you only lose 2 or 3% of oem tank capacity. Hope this helps -- IGD
