9-5 stalled, hard to restart and keep running (long)

Our 2009 9-5 wagon was towed to a repair shop this afternoon. It has run perfectly for over 50,000 miles, until today.
My wife came out of Hobby Lobby this morning, started the car, and while it was idling and she was taking a call on her cell phone, it sputtered and died. It would crank and fire, but would not restart. I came home from work and we drove back to the car. I was able to get it started, but only by holding the accelerator down; it would stall as soon as I let up on the pedal. The CEL was on (solid). I was able to drive it to another part of the parking lot, where a tow truck came and took it to the shop.
We're over 400 miles from the dealer where we bought the car new (Dana Motors in Billings, MT). I called them and they said that a GM dealer should be able to read the diagnostic codes on a Tech 2. However, we called two local Chevrolet dealers and one Cadillac/GMC dealer, and none of them would look at it. We found an independent shop that agreed to take it, but they said it would be over a week before they could look at it.
I will post updates when I have them.
