So the way I understand it is that you replaced the pump motor only and not the whole pump assembly?
And it sounds like you removed the cap at the bottom of fuel pump motor?
And that gas is squirting right out of the fuel pump nozzle when fuel pipe is not plugged in?
The only guess left would be if you swapped the return and pressure line since it is a back flow check valve in the return line too working in opposite direction of the check valve in fuel pressure line.
