I disconnected mine three years ago after reading a post here from MarkfromToronto. Apparently there are sharp internals that can tear up seals. Shutting off the vacuum stops actuation, and some of the thermal cycling. That turns the valve into a passive plastic fitting and apparently greatly prolongs its life. We've had our car about 50k miles and it's been fine. The car has 147,000 on it. When it does go we'll install the "McKay" kit and simply discard it. As Mark says, just cut the line and install plugs - in my case a pair of tapered dowel pins I had in my toolbox.
