Water Pump O-rings - size & experiment update

Updating on my experiment on Water Pump O-rings. In December 2011 I re- replaced the water pump on a '99 SE 2.3plt with about 183K miles. I used a 221 size of Viton O-ring [too large], and I had to sand the outside diameter to get it to fit. The car now has a bit over 220K miles, and at nearly four winters the O-rings for the WP are still okay. I am not sure is this a full test for the Viton O-rings' material, since it was a really tight fit for the tube into the block.
I am adopting a different strategy for two 2006's on which I will be replacing water pumps in the next year. I will try Mil Spec Fluorosilicone O-rings in the 220 size from McMaster Carr. This should be the correct size: See Swedecar's post linked below. I will still polish the surfaces to shiny bare metal, and I will likely use a very little Super Blue Permatex to bed them. The Fluorosilicone O-rings are expensive ($9.35 for two pack) - but it probably only needs the one on the block side, where the unequal heat & cool stress happens.
