While delivering a Viggen customer to the airport today I down shifted the '02 9-5 Linear down to 3rd at freeway speeds and played with mashing the throttle both in sport and non-sport modes. 3rd was used to avoid any shifting, 4,000ish rpm to 5,500 with out a shift.
I thought I could really feel a difference. In sport the "tip in" was much snappier, that is a little throttle got a bigger bang in sport than non. I don't think it was my imagination. At wider throttle openings I didn't, and I don't think you would, notice any difference, but it definitely felt like a bigger jerk/punch/kick upon tip in when in sport.
I'm dying to try this on my '96 900SE and new Aeros and Arcs.
