drs_install <-- keyword for search cabin air filter
All torx screws are #25
You need a small tool to push in the centers of plastic rivets.
Have a mini vac or such for cleanup.
The cover over the filter is 6mm head heads. 1/4" was too loose for me.
You can get most cover bolts with a screw driver + socket. Need a conventional small ratchet to get one or two screws in the back.
The automatic transmission controller, is in the way if equipped. This is what to do. Take a pix of the three wiring connectors above the filter cover. Remove, two will need a flat blade driver to open up. Cut nylon tie wrap that holds harness to filter cover. The black frame the holds the transmission controller slides up onto two steel tongues from above. There are two plastic bits to press in and the whole things slides down. Take that mess and the wiring harness and move back out of the way beside the center console hump. Now everything is exposed.
When you pull the old filter, you need to clean the filter box of debris. A flash light and a small mirror, not tiny, is needed to see if things are clear. You can get your hand in there and sweep the channels/edges. The top foam piece may be rotten and needs to be pulled out if so. Do this before you clean out the box. When you fit the new foam, be sure that you are opening the gaps then swinging up the ends in place so there are no gaps.
Look at old filter to see orientation [dirt] and there is a soft surface on the bottom edge.
Everything is the reverse to put things back. You need a wire tie to replace the one you cut out.
The left edge of the kick panel is meant to fit behind the carpet and there is a small tongue. You can leave that external and not disturb the riv-nut there. Seems that some Saab dealers did that. Hard for someone to get to where that would be visible.
