I never felt the extra $ for 89 or 92/93 gave me enough extra performance (power or mpg) to justify the cost. Some might feel differently. One thing folks seem to agree on is that the car will need a few tankfuls of the new octane (whether going up or coming down) for the car to 'adapt' to the new octane grade and give its true behavior at that grade.
