This is one of those jobs that has several layers of success or failure all depending on how lucky you are and how deep you go with the repair.
In perfect way, you take the head and oil pan off, remove the transmission and reseal the rear end cover and then bolt everything back again.
All other less than that repairs depends on your luck if it is going to be leaking or not.
If you only remove the transmission and try to wiggle the cover out from between the head and oil pan. It comes down to if you manage get sealant into the nooks and crannies between head gasket and head and in the corner of oil pan and cover. All a gamble with your labor. If you pay someone to do it, you wouldn't want to pay all over again if it is still leaking afterwards.
