I cut the slits off of a pair of Honda Accord drains years and years ago, and never had a problem. I also cut the slits off of my NG900's drains a lot more recently, and haven't had problems with those, either. My 9-5's drains are the latest ones to have them cut off. I live in Washington state, and we have tons of pine needles everywhere that clog up sunroof drains in no time. There's also plenty of water regularly going down those drains because of all of our rain, so I'm not too worried about stuff getting in the drains from the bottom and plugging them up that way.
