Hey, I just did a search HERE on THIS BOARD for DRIVE CYCLE. It turned up a lot of good stuff...
It seems you need to go on a longer drive and you CAN have it in fifth gear. 45 - 50 mph for a steady long drive. No need to blow your trans...
A code reader can reset it if it has that option. RENT or buy a code reader that can reset at major auto parts stores.
Your catalytic converter or O2 sensors could be bad. Something else could be up. Read up on the repair history of your SAAB.
The thermostat should be fine. Did you ONLY replace THAT?
What did they tell you at the inspection place?
