The Taliaferro 3" down pipe includes a high flow cat and it bolts up to the stock system right at the silencer (first muffler). That means that it also replaces the stock flex pipe, which is the most likely source of your leak.
Putting in the Taliaferro pipe doesn't significantly change the sound at the exhaust pipe, but the engine does breathe easier and develop boost a little quicker. The weld quality on the Taliaferro pipe is amazing and it is all stainless steel. It also has a nice V-band clamp that connects the down pipe to the rest of the exhaust. I really appreciated that feature when I was replacing my subframe bushings last weekend as is saved me from having to disconnect the down pipe at the turbo.
I noticed that the Krona exhaust is a turbo-back system that includes the down pipe. If you are going to replace everything, that might be the way to go.
My car (2002 Aero) still has the original exhaust. If anything rusts out on it, I will upgrade it. For now, the Taliaferro down pipe and stock exhaust works for me.
