ask for a preliminary estimate from an expert Posted by Ken [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Does anyone know how to determine the speed of impa, Kirk Daehnke, Wed, 3 Jul 2002 02:38:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First, go to a good body shop. They'll have someone who can guesstimate the speed based on your damage and his history of working on cars. If that guesstimate is good enough, then
Second, get the referral as someone else mentioned. Ask the expert to just take a brief look and give his guesstimate. It won't cost much, if anything at all, but it won't be worth anything to the adjuster.
If his guesstimate is worth pursuing, it'll cost you about $5-10 grand (my guesstimate).
If no one's been hurt, then there is a 0% chance anyone's insurance company will pay for this. What they'll probably (in my cynical opinion) do is apportion 51% of the fault to you and 51% of the fault to the other driver (that way both of you get your insurance premium increased).
If there are serious injuries, then both of you will pay for experts, one to say it was slow the other fast.
Basically, if you're well enough to ask on this board, give it up. You're likely to be screwed by your insurance company, but that's life.
