2006 Sport Combi with 118K miles - See link to original post.

What - New fuel pump installed, and car cranked but wouldn't start. Eventually I confirmed 1) intake and exhaust were clear; 2) Spark was good (tested outside car); 3) Fuel pump ran - BUT the new fuel pump only delivered 8 PSI. Confirmed good power, good ground, good fuel pressure regulator => had to be a bad fuel pump, right out of the box.

Happy Ending - eEuro gave me an RMA, I returned the fuel pump, they sent a new one - both pumps were Walbro brand. I tested the new pump before reinstalling the exhaust (should have done this the first time!). Can't recommend this enough, now that I have had this problem. The new pump puts out the 43 PSI it's supposed to, limited by the fuel pressure regulator. After reinstalling exhaust the car started right up =).

Thanks again Bernie for offering advice and encouragement a couple of times on how to conclusively ID the pump as the problem!

By the way, the pump I installed is the part number for the new generation 9-3 turbo 4. It appears identical to the original in all regards except for the odd shaped vapor recapture hose, which I duct taped to keep it in place while installing the fuel tank so I would not crush it. It is less than half the cost of the 9-5 part.

Hope this might help someone else.
