Jeremy R. - thanks for your pointers. For me, it worked out a little differently. I loosened the aft spindle nut to rotate the aluminum bushing housing slightly downwards, then reattached the control arm to the subframe fore and aft and proceeded to jack underneath the ball joint. But because of the downward slope of the unibody seam behind the subframe, I was unable to get my torque wrench head in place. So instead I paint-striped the aluminum housing and control arm to capture the desired clock angle, then lowered the car, detached the control arm, and torqued the spindle nut to spec albeit with a slight clock offset. I then reattached the control arm and proceeded to jack underneath the ball joint till the control arm was approximately one degree below horizontal. I then torqued all bolts to spec.
The foregoing applied to the passenger side only; the driver's side was mountable with a little persuasion from a rubber mallet.
Lesson learned for me is to paint-stripe the aluminum housing to control arm clock alignment prior to replacement.
