I have an '02 9-5 Aero wagon with 5-speed, currently at 232K. Service record folder is 2" thick. Bought it at 34k.
From memory, my repairs & replacements - motor top end (sludge from previous owner), shocks/struts 100k ago, central subframe bushings, PCV valve #6, new snorkel, climate control mechanism (flapper arms x 2), lower coolant hoses, TPS, thermostat, heater bypass valve (3x), radiator, transmission filler, brakes 2x, rear suspension shims, alternator, battery x2-3, cracked sunroof mechanism (tilts up/down but does not slide back-forth), rear hatch struts, hood struts, Xenon bulbs 2x, idler pulley, A/C compressor, driver side window mechanism, lots & lots of tires...
Don't let the laundry list scare you - I put almost 20k on the car per year for the last 10 years, all on the rebuilt motor. Oil changes every 5k with 10W40 Mobil 1.
Make sure the oil has been changed regularly with a quality synthetic. Make sure the major services (every 60k) have been done. If it's a wagon, check for a squatting back end (increased tire wear). If you can, drain the oil and do the coathanger test for sludge/oil crumbles in the pan.
After the rebuild, the engine itself has been flawless save for an intermittent oil weep at the valve cover. TRansmission is great - no issues at all.
I'm about to replace mine, but I'm not happy about it - it is everything I wanted in a car - power, handling, economy, cargo capacity, comfort. And a 5-speed!!!!
