I'm sure you'd be able to buy it as a replacement part from SAAB, but if its this option vs getting it as a factory option you'll probably pay more than twice what it would have cost you to specify it when you order your car.
If you want this feature, I'd buy it up front.

There are also several good aftermarket nav systems available, If you want to install it afterwards, I particularly like the Pioneer system which gives you verbal instructions as needed, and re-calculates your route to account for detours/missed turns. The aftermarket setups are expensive (The Pioneer runs about 6000 canadian for the complete set-up with 7" LCD) but I'm sure it would be less than buying the SAAB unit after the fact.

Bottom line- the cheapest way to get a nav system in your car would be to order it from the factory as an original option.

Consider this though...
On-star is standard on all 9-5 and from what I've experienced their service is quite good. (others on this board would disagree) I've gotten both driving directions, and directions to restaurants with excellent results- turn by turn directions along with distances, exit numbers and streets referenced by both name and number.
