Due to repositioning of some hoses, and the composition of other hoses, IMO the alternator R + R (through the top, of course) is a easier than it is on a 2004. Taking off the PCV hose at the valve cover and positioning it out of the way helps, and I didn't scratch my left hand up at all bringing the old alternator up through the opening.
The key things I recommend are, definitely remove the plastic wheel housing, remove the washer and nut on the back motor mount (remove the whole right upper mount)and place a jack under the oil pan, favoring the right and rear. You're elevating the motor up and forward far enough so a hunk of 2x4 scrap can be positioned between the drive assembly and the subframe and once that scrap is in there, detension the jack a little. This rocks the motor/trans forward and to the left. Could not believe the alternator just wiggled right out (positioned right, of course).
