Replace the upper radiator hose. Replace the Temperature Sensor. Eliminate the Heater By-Pass Valve, if you can find a MacKay hose set.
Cost to do the work? I would expect to be charged at least two hours labor plus the cost of thermostat and coolant. So maybe $300 at low end, my guess only. The pre-2006 cars are easier to access these parts than the 2006 and later cars so my guess might be high for labor.
