The symptoms you describe are not unlike what I experienced. Because the cable was sufficiently corroded, it was very inefficient in carrying the charge back to the battery from the alternator. Short trips were completely insufficient to recharge the battery; it took my (then) 45 minute commute to give me a chance.
I got my cable from eEuro, and they had it in stock luckily back then. I would give them a call and ask, they may have to place an order to get an availability date.
Otherwise try Googling Saab 5477831, and see what comes up, and call around.
