If utility is what you're looking for- go with the wagon. I bought a 2002 Aero wagon in may and it's great. I have the sliding load floor which makes loading heavy items easier, and the cargo tracks make securing it very easy as well. One can also purchase a cargo net (as I did) which mounts to the upper rear edge of the back seat and extends to the roof allowing you to fill up the cargo area all the way to the top. And, as an added bonus- the cargo net works with the back seat folded down and extends to the roof just behind the 2 front seats. With the net extended to the roof and the seat folded down, you can fit an unbelievably large amount of cargo in there, and the 9-5 (especially the Aero) will still have enough balls to pass just about everyone else on the road even with the back fully loaded. When you're done using the net, it retracts back, and cannot be seen once the cargo cover is in place. The wagon also can be fitted with crossbars (the sedan also can be, but the side rails that come with the wagon make it a cheaper proposition) the crossbars will allow you to add extra cargo space in the form of a roof-mounted box, or you can put bikes, kayaks, or anything else you please up there (I once moved a double futon frame on my roof with no issues)
Look around- you may find a deal on a wagon (perhaps a demo) to narrow the price gap.
