First off, the next time you start the car, immediately press the Econ button to turn off the compressor (it may be running even on cool days depending on your climate control settings). You should be able to hear the sound a bit more clearly, or determine if it is originating in the compressor.
I think I would ask the dealer to inspect the exhaust system. You can get peculiar metallic noises from loose heat shields or hardware. Also have them inspect the entire engine compartment for loose wires or plumbing. Just because the sound vanishes (or at least becomes less noticeable) after a while doesn't mean it is gone. I found loads of less-than-solid stuff in the engine compartment of my '01 Aero. Not to imply that things were misassembled or ready to fall off - rather that they could move enough to tap against adjacent stuff and possibly make noises.
I tied down a lot of stuff with nylon tie-wraps. Perhaps you could buy a small bundle of 6 inch ties at the hardware store and just go around your engine compartent, neatly securing anything that is not securely mounted. Your sound might just disappear without a trip to the dealer.
