Well, to me it kind of sounds like a dead IDM so until that theory has been fully tested, it is not much more I can add.
That's the basis of my surly comment if they have not been able to find it after 9 hours.
If the mechanic is really good but cannot find it after 9 hours of fault tracing, the problem must be really really difficult and I would probably not be able to shed more light on it over the phone or e-mail anyway because it would take a hands on approach following my steps of fault tracing one leg at the time.
Also, using used parts, especially IDM's. It is absolutely crucial that you know they are good since the first generation had a tendency to fail with a poof when you started the car or during driving.
If all the ones you have are TK4.4 version I would take it with a grain of salt if the are good or not. If they are the later TK4.6 version, the chances are much better they are ok.
