How to secure a canoe?

I've been wondering how I will attach my canoe to my Aero wagon. I've found the tie down on the back- but I don't think that the rear tie down combined with straps laterally will cut it. I know that there is an eye which can be screwed into the front engine sub-frame but once this is installed is is dangerously close to the ground (especially in areas where you would typically be taking a canoe) and I am worried it would hit the ground with very expensive/dangerous side effects like tearing the entire engine sub-frame away.
How do others secure a canoe or other longer loads on your wagon? Is it secure enough without the front tied down? Is there another front tie-down location that I'm not aware of?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
