A friend runs a local shop and he says most technicians rarely use air ratchets anymore - they've all gone to lithium cordless. Snap-On makes a half inch drive 18 Volt cordless impact that will deliver 345 ft-lb. That's more than enough to remove most any standard lug nut you'll find. The list price of this beast however is north of $600. Unless you're a pro and will use it daily, or well heeled stick with a pneumatic impact wrench - you'll be $200 ahead after purchasing a decent compressor and monster impact as found at Harbor Freight.
I have a 120VAC corded DeWalt impact wrench and only use it for running down or running out lug nuts. To break them free I still use a half inch breaker bar, sometimes with a 2' long cheater on it.
