I never heard of synthetic vaseline.
I use PAG oil as most manufacturers recommend. I just did a complete rebuild on my 2000 Red Aero wagon project. Everything new but heat exchanger. Works great. Used PAG oil.

Lots of info on A/C in the WIS.
Remember it takes 29 OZ. of R134a by weight. Fill it to low side only. Vacuum the air and water out.....I assume you have a vacuum pump.
