I would scrap the idea of a Turbo Upgrade. Even repaired, this motor is going to need plenty of TLC. You're not going to want to push this motor hard, from this point on, and that IMO would have been the primary advantage of the Upgrade.
102 K is actually kind of early for significant wear, normally to the timing chain and associated parts. But if you're already hearing excess noise there, you might wanna replace everything in that assembly you readily can. I've got a 220,000 miles '04 H.O. motor that's remarkably quiet/smooth in the timing chain area, stock.
You're still looking for the "why" this event happened. Until you determine that, you can't know what really needs replacement. I have a 2001 9-5 where Saab somehow failed to properly tension the head bolts - but I thought that was remedied before the 2003 model year?
If you haven't dropped the oil pan and checked for sludge, maybe you should do that first.
