Understand your predicament, but you need the codes to get real advice without just guessing. Do you or a friend have a generic OBDII code reader? Those won't read the ABS, but they might tell you the CEL code and whether it is constant or clearing & recurring. Try WalMart, and don't spend a lot - none of them will be Tech2's.
If there are no codes and you can't get to a person with a Tech2, you might get somewhat better ABS related information from the OpCom reader and software on a PC. I have one, and it is cranky and not super informative, but does a little better than generic OBDII.
After saying all of this, IF you have ABS wiring faults to the sensors or a bad sensor, you might see this kind of symptom. That's because a wheel speed reporting error (ABS) problem can eventually cause other errors. As you work on getting codes, read the link from Dano in Texas.
Post back as you get more information. Wish I could have been of more help.
