Sounds like a likely suspect would be the brake light switch on the brake pedal.
The brake light switch activates the solenoid in the console to unlock the shifter. In addition, when it gets flaky a failing switch can cause the dash lights you are seeing.
You can start by getting under the dash and making sure the electrical connection to the switch is clean and well-seated. That may help. If not, I would order a new switch and swap it.
